About Amanda Skidmore, MPH, CPE

Amanda's interest in body mechanics and ergonomics began with her own experience as a classical musician managing pain. She recognized that by adjusting her playing technique, she could not only reduce her risk of injury but also enhance her musical performance. Pursuing this insight, she trained in Aston Kinetics and became a Certified Aston-Patterning Practitioner in 2004. She then went on to complete advanced ergonomic education at the University of California Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and a Master of Public Health in Leadership and Public Health Practice at the Colorado School of Public Health.

Amanda's diverse background as a somatic educator, board-certified ergonomist, and public health professional enables her to bring a unique and valuable set of skills to her work, tailored to clients across various professions.

In addition to her work with individuals, Amanda also enjoys creating programming geared toward the unique needs of different groups and organizations. Recent programming includes:

  • Participatory Ergonomics Programs for surgeons and nurses

  • Ergonomics Workshops for office workers

  • Aston Movement Workshops for wide-ranging populations (e.g., gardeners, athletes, senior citizens, applications to activities of daily living)

  • Masterclasses on Aston Kinetics and Ergonomics for musicians at universities, summer music programs, and international symposia

Amanda is a graduate of the Human Factors/Ergonomics Certificate Program at the University of California Ergonomics Research & Graduate Training Program and Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and is a board-certified ergonomist through the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE). She also holds a Master of Public Health degree in Leadership and Public Health Practice from the Colorado School of Public Health. Additionally, Amanda earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Horn Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Northwestern University, respectively.
